The Duplex: Our new home in London
Are you ready for some exciting news? We are very happy to introduce the newest addition to the DOMstay family, The Duplex! Adjacent to The Warehouse, it has been redesigned to create a unique living space across two storeys. It’s even got a lovely courtyard in the back!
After months of hard work and extensive remodeling, we would like to present our newest holiday home in London! Located in Clerkenwell, the city’s renowned design district right next to Shoreditch, this home offers a unique and spacious living experience for up to 4 guests who want to travel style. Spread across two floors, the layout separates the space into zones for cooking and dining, entertainment, and sleeping, that can simultaneously accommodate everyone’s needs.
The building was originally a 19th-century wine warehouse and then a lithographic printing works that DOM’s Founder and Creative Director, Marta Nowicka, and her late husband, artist Sean Kimber, found on a night out in 1999. At the time the couple was looking for a large live/work space to house their individual practices, so this raw space instantly caught their attention. A few years later, Marta had the vision to develop and extend the space, dividing it into 3 apartments and excavating to create a basement with exposed concrete walls and modern, glass light wells that would further enrich its industrial-chic character.
“The narrative of a property is always interesting, and that’s something I’ve always tried to retain as an interior architect and developer” says Marta.
The newest chapter in the renovation breathes new life into the design, creating a stylish, urban atmosphere that is sure to impress. On the ground floor, the open-plan kitchen is fully equipped and has everything you might need to prepare delicious meals during your stay. At the back are the sleeping quarters, 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms, to keep the spaces separate to ensure a peaceful night’s rest. You’ll even find a courtyard to enjoy your coffee or glass of wine in good weather!
Certainly one of the highlights is the living room downstairs. Taking a cue from our neighbouring Barbican, the space features ambient lighting, monochrome sofas, and a floating seating bench around the room that creates cosy, den-like feeling - just perfect to sit back and relax watching a movie after a long day of exploring the city.
The location of The Duplex is second to none. In Clerkenwell, you'll find an incredible selection of stylish cafes, boutiques, and cutting-edge restaurants just a stone's throw away from your doorstep. Whether you're interested in exploring the British Museum, catching a show in the West End, or wandering along the banks of the Thames, everything is right within your reach. Walk to majestic St. Paul’s in 10 minutes or less than 20 to Tate Modern. Alternatively, Old Street, Barbican or Farringdon stations are a short walk away for quick access to the entire city or the airport via the Elizabeth line.
